Competing on Analytics: 10 Steps Recommended by TDWI

Being an analytic company can be considered a key capability in gaining and maintaining a competitive advantage. Organizations need to move beyond reporting and improve their operations and decision-making by deploying a more analytic way of thinking and working. The problem is that few companies know where to begin.

Wayne Eckerson, a director at The Data Warehousing Institute (TDWI), published a ten-step guide for launching and sustaining analytics in your company:

Step 1: Find an Analyst.

Step 2: Find a Business Person.

Step 3: Gain Sponsorship.

Step 4: Don't Get Uppity.

Step 5: Make It Actionable.

Step 6: Make It Proactive.

Step 7: Centralize and Standardize the Data.

Step 8: Provide Open Access to Data.

Step 9: Centralize Analysts.

Step 10: Offload Reporting.

Easier said than done, but very to the point and practical. Start with getting the right people on board. Gain momentum and build success by adding value to the right people. Sustain the analytics effort by using the right tools and creating an effective team. Very interesting article. I really liked it, and if you want to jumpstart your company's analytics I think you will too.
